Eight shot, one fatally after gunfire breaks out during party at California hookah bar – New York Daily News

Gunfire erupted Friday night amid a large group of revelers partying at a California hookah bar, leaving at least one dead and several others injured.

Officers from the San Bernardino Police Department responded to the THA Blue Flame just before midnight to investigate reports of a shooting, according to ABC 7.

“Upon arrival, officers encountered a large crowd and learned they were in the area attending a party,” authorities said in a news release.

A witness, who did not wish to be identified, told the news station that the rally appeared to be a graduation celebration. She said that at one point during the festivities, she spotted a car pull up to a nearby gas station and then opened fire on the hookah bar from inside the vehicle.

Police discovered a victim outside the building – located among several other businesses in a strip mall – and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Eight other people were treated at a nearby hospital for injuries that are not thought to be life threatening.

No arrests were made in connection with the shooting, which sparked a heavy police presence in the area. The motive for the violence also remained unclear on Saturday afternoon.

Police said an investigation was underway.
