iPhone 14 Pro leak shows slightly worse screen than we expected

We’ve already seen so many iPhone 14 leaks that it hardly seems like there could be any surprises at the end of the year when it launches – but that also means it’s easy to notice slight changes between leaks over time.

That’s what happened right now, as prolific leaker Ice Universe provided a computer-aided design (CAD) render of the iPhone 14 Pro, aiming to compare the bezel between it and the iPhone 13 Pro, but there’s something else worth noting about it.

We’ve heard that the iPhone 14 Pro will drop the notch and use a “punch hole” for the camera cutout, like many Android phones use, and we’ve seen plenty of renders showing this .

However, these new renders show an iPhone 14 Pro with a significantly larger front camera than we previously thought.

Take a look at this render that’s the new one, then take a look at these old ones we’ve seen:

If you compare the front cameras, it seems clear that the old renders show much smaller renders than in the new images – keep in mind that both leaks are about the iPhone 14 Pro, so the screen will look the same cut.

Larger cameras take up more screen real estate, so the screen-to-body ratio of the iPhone 14 Pro will be a bit lower, according to Ice Universe, than older renders suggest.

The new images make sense though – the sizes don’t seem to make sense with the 91mobile renders, based on the side buttons versus the expected screen size (6.1in). This leads us to believe that these are actually renders based on Pro Max specs, and that there has been a misunderstanding somewhere.

It’s worth pointing out that these aren’t official images: they’re created by leakers based on specs they’ve heard. So the real iPhone 14 Pro could fall somewhere between these two designs.

Given how often we hear about the iPhone 14, we’ll almost certainly see countless more renders in the coming months, and perhaps our understanding of dimensions will grow further. Let’s see.
