Offensive George Floyd-related promposal sparks outrage in California – New York Daily News

Students, teachers and parents at a Southern California high school were outraged this week when one student invited another to prom with a rude George Floyd joke.

“If you went to prom with me, it would take my breath away,” read the student’s sign, which included a Black Lives Matter logo and Floyd’s face, local Fox affiliate KTTV reported.

The boy is a student at Aliso Niguel High School in southern Orange County, according to KTTV. Several students spoke with the outlet about the incident.

“To be honest,” junior Isabella Castrezana said, “I’ve seen a lot worse happen. Overall, I find it really disgusting.

The school district, about 45 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, released a statement condemning the incident. This isn’t the first time a high schooler has thought he was smart to bastardize Floyd’s death. A girl from Nevada made a similar sign in February 2021.
