Second Overwatch 2 beta on the way with new content expected – is Junker Queen coming?

The Overwatch 2 PvP beta has ended, pushing players back into the Overwatch 1 vacuum for a while. However, developer Blizzard has teased a new event for June, which means we shouldn’t be waiting too long before we can return to the sequel.

Now that it’s over, the Overwatch 2 beta appears to have been quite a success, with the game hitting 1.5 million concurrent viewers on Twitch as part of a beta key giveaway. While the numbers have dropped over time, it’s clear there’s interest in what Overwatch 2 brings to the table.

However, with the closed beta, players are now wondering what’s next? Fortunately, the developers have given a date when we will know more.

In a post on Blizzard’s website, the development team said, “We’ve been both touched and inspired by the interest and excitement everyone has shown for Overwatch 2, and we can’t wait. to share more with you about what’s next. . Save the date for an Overwatch 2 event on June 16!”

In an official Tweet Overwatchit was clarified that we will learn what happens in the “coming months” during the event, suggesting that we may have a longer term view of how beta periods will work.

What could happen in the second beta of Overwatch 2?

With the announcement of the event, the questions now turn to what is likely to come in the next beta phase. Although nothing has been confirmed, we do know that some things were not included in the first Overwatch 2 beta.

It seems likely we’ll get at least another map or two, and it looks like Rio De Janeiro is a prime candidate. The map was featured in a 2021 PvP livestream but was conspicuously absent from the first beta. The Escourt map also seems likely to be included, and it’s entirely possible that we’ll see another map, which has yet to be announced.

I also hope that we will have a new hero to play with. While it’s unclear who will be revealed next, there is speculation surrounding supposed leaks that the long-awaited Junker Queen is on the way. Overwatch content creator Master Ian Gamer recently posted a video on the leaks, explaining that more and more evidence suggests we’ll see the character soon. Junker Queen, as her name suggests, is the queen of Junkertown, and fans have been speculating about joining the playable roster since August 2017 when the Junkertown map was released.

However, there are other potential characters like Mauga, Baptiste’s ex-partner in Talon, who the development team says will one day be a playable hero.

However, the feature many will want the most, myself included, is some kind of competitive mode. While Overwatch 2 is fun, it’s hard to commit to it long-term without a dedicated ranked experience, as Quick Play offers no incentives outside of the current match you’re playing.

In a developer blog for the beta, Blizzard talked about ranked, explaining, “we are planning significant revisions to our core ranked and competitive mode systems and these are not yet ready for full-scale public testing.” .

Will he be ready for the second phase? We hope. Competing gives players a great incentive to improve the game and go beyond just quick play.

Hopefully the second beta of Overwatch 2 will be released soon after the June 16 presentation. Overwatch 2 is gaining momentum after years of dying, so hopefully Blizzard can capitalize on it soon.
