Making sure you never lose that vital Microsoft OneDrive file should soon be much easier thanks to a new update coming soon.
The cloud storage service adds the ability to rename your “Add to OneDrive” shortcuts, which hopefully makes it much easier to find specific files and folders.
The update allows users to rename shortcuts they’ve added using the “Add to OneDrive” feature in OneDrive web – a minor change, but one that’s sure to be appreciated by users everywhere.

In its official Microsoft 365 roadmap entry, the company notes that the update is expected to launch in June 2022, which means it should be live within the next few weeks. When launched, it will be available to all OneDrive web users, including GCC and DoD users, which shows the importance Microsoft places on the tool.
The update is the latest change to OneDrive in recent months as Microsoft seeks to make the service even more useful in the new era of hybrid working.
The company recently revealed that OneDrive for Business users will soon get a dedicated feed highlighting recent activity associated with their files. A new activity column in the “My Files” page in OneDrive for Business web will now show which of your shared documents have invisible edits and comments.
He also unveiled an update that gives users the ability to specify access permissions before copying a sharing link for a file, helping control who has access to their files.
Microsoft 365 users will also soon benefit from better synergy between OneDrive and the Teams video conferencing platform, with a new “Your Teams” section added to the “More Places” page, allowing users to find and work easily with your files in Teams.
Although recent data collected by Tech Radar Pro suggests that Google Drive is currently the most popular cloud storage service by some margin, Microsoft hopes OneDrive enhancements like these will help capture more of the business market.
